Why Nike has a successful marketing brand and how you can apply it to yourself.

In the UK, Nike is one of the top 5 ‘ best companies to work for’. It is listed to be somewhere at the 4 or 3 position. But aside from this, why has Nike been at the top 5 ranks, what's making them beat the competition, and if people somehow do know why are aren’t they applying it to themselves.

There most valuable skill as marketers

The answer to all this is simple: Storytelling.

The way that I see it, Nike is good at what they do because they can tell a COMPELLING story. I’ve noticed that most of the time, I get an ad from a no name company that’s usually about them and not about the people, and for the most part, it actually works in there favour somehow, but the way Nike promotes there brand, it’s like they make you FEEL like you’re supposed to be with them.

Here’s how Nike makes us feel when we see a video from them:

  • Makes you feel like something bigger than you are meant to be( Like an athlete even though most of us aren’t athletes.
  • You become inspired by the stuff they say
  • They believe that you can change for the better
  • They let people like us see a vision of future athletes

Nike has a way of making the story about us rather than them and so even when they put out products that are a little too expensive, people will go out of there way to buy it, not because of the product but because Nike makes us feel better than what we are already. Which finally brings us to the final question.

How can I apply what Nike does as a brand?

Just like from the other point, the only thing you have to do when being able to market your brand is being able to have the ability to tell a compelling story. The story should be about the people and what there going to feel when they use your product, knowledge, skills, service, etc. Whatever you have to offer to the people needs to have a compelling story that needs to told.

You don’t have to change the entire world in order to be as successful as Nike but if you take away one thing from this post is that if you want to create superfans that will buy anything you have, all you have to do is create a story that will change a group of peoples perspective to become better than they already are.
